Our History

1969: the beginning

On September 23, 1969, Rev. Dimas Quiles arrived from Passaic, New Jersey, with his wife, Lydia Quiles. They began evangelizing door to door, and that is how the First Pentecostal Church of Dover was born. Since no place of worship was available, they met in a hall lent to them by the Presbyterian church.

A place of their own

In November 1969, Rev. Dimas Quiles, his wife and Brother Astacio Vargas (may he rest in peace) decided the time had come to have a place of their own. They rented a space at 10 Morris Street in Dover, where they began to see conversions. In July 1973 they moved to 21 Hudson Street, and later they acquired the building at 32 Union Street, which the church owns today.

A new generation

In March 2005, Rev. Dimas Quiles, president of the corporation, named his son Darcy as his successor. In April of that same year he anointed and ordained him as a minister, and for personal reasons stepped down as president and pastor. Rev. Dimas Quiles went to be with the Lord on March 24, 2012. We remember him with gratitude for his dedication and faithful service.

Today

Reverend Darcy Ed. Quiles has led the church through difficult times and continues to pastor it with steadfastness and faith. In 2023, the First Pentecostal Church of Dover joined the Assemblies of God, beginning a new season of growth and ministry. We believe God will continue to do great things in our congregation.
